Pap Pap’s Review By Kevin Hudson Pap Pap’s, a modest pizza shop across from the Carrolltowne Mall, observably directs its focus at the quality of the food it serves and not the atmosphere it creates, which is an oddity that many seem to appreciate. Upon entering the venue, I noticed a few things almost immediately: an exposed kitchen, old tables, unorganized decoration, and a peculiar humming noise that seemed to emanate from the back of the restaurant. But amidst this unsettling ambiance, I also took note of an underlying feeling of welcoming and hominess. This was obviously intended to be a family-friendly environment. The server was a kind young man, who had no problem helping us through the order, offering options from memory. The options provided at Pap Pap’s far exceeded the realm of “pizza shop”, with choices like BBQ, burgers, cheese steaks, and subs among the pizza. No dish, with the exception of whole pizzas, exceeded nine dollars. The restaurant warranted a Christian undertone, apparent by the photos of churches on the walls and a bible verse on a dry erase board. We sat down and waited for our orders to finish and be brought out to us. The tables did not have very comfortable benches, which were clearly not added recently. Crayons were available to occupy children, but the wait was not long. Shortly, my BBQ sandwich and curly fries was sitting in front of me. The portions of the meals were fairly average, and nothing to complain about considering the low prices we paid for them. I was very satisfied with the BBQ sandwich, and was left wanting more. The curly fries, however, were exceptional. I was also able to try the regular fries, which were also delicious. The chicken noodle soup did not have as many noodles as I would prefer, but made up for this shortage with taste, which was obviously provided by a plethora of spices and onions. The trend seemed to be that the surroundings in Pap Pap’s were nothing out of the ordinary, but the food was exceptional. The pizza did not shy away from this trend. It was not too greasy and had the right flavor from a good balance of sauce and cheese. Overall, the feeling was relaxed, and the food was great. So, Pap Pap’s was and is a wise decision for a good meal. Address: 17 Liberty Rd., Eldersburg, MD, 21784 Phone: 410-549-2800 Hours: Monday – Saturday: 10:30am – 9:30pm Sunday: 12 – 8pm
